On Wednesday, Flemish farmers protested against new measures to improve groundwater quality. Fertilizer Bank offices in Bruges, Hasselt and Herntals were targeted. Farmers drove about 100 tractors to the bank in Herntals (province of Antwerp). They fear for the survival of their business if a new mud business plan is implemented. A plan leaked to the press last weekend calls for a lowering of the general clay standard and, on some farmland, a moratorium on harvesting from September 1.
