Investor Lars Windhorst appears to be about to leave the football club Bundesliga Hertha BSC and found a buyer for its shares.
“Yes, we found what we were looking for,” the entrepreneur said, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, at the SZ Business Summit in Berlin when asked if he had found a buyer.
The agency quoted the 46-year-old as saying that he had “come up with a solution that would be very effective for Hertha”. According to the report, Windhorst left open his identity and how much money he received for the stock. “We will announce it soon,” he said. Overall, he was “positively surprised” by the outcome of the negotiations.
Windhorst’s advertisement was positively received by the capital club. “We are happy with this news. Everything else will now be settled according to our agreement,” Hertha said.
Windhorst had announced his departure from Hertha in October in connection with the espionage case involving former president Werner Gegenbauer and the resulting controversies. With his company Tennor, Windhorst owns a 64.7% stake, which he had offered to buy from the club “at the purchase price at the time”.
As a result, the club should have collected 374 million euros.
