The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.15% to 61514.48, while the NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.16% to 183273.70, 0433 GMT.
Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty index of public sector banks increased by about 1%, continuing its upward trend thanks to the improvement in the quality of assets of public creditors.
State Bank of India, India’s largest creditor, was among the biggest gainers in the Nifty 50, rising 1%. Cipla and HDFC Life also grew at similar rates.
Overnight, Wall Street’s three major indexes rose, supported by gains in technology, energy and healthcare stocks. The MSCI Asia ex Japan Index rose 0.39% on Wednesday. [MKTS/GLOB]
Fed meeting minutes are due at 1900 GMT and investors will be watching for clues on the pace of interest rate hikes.
