I don’t know if you feel the same as me, but after just a week I’m even more confused than before.

For centuries, it was easy to follow an election campaign in Quebec. There were two parties: the Red and the Blue. The Reds were the Liberal Party and the Blues were the Conservative Party, the Union Nationale and the Parti Québécois. We had no trouble finding our way around. For decades, heaven was blue and hell was red, after that the reds were the federalists and the blues were the separatists. To find out which side you’re on, you only had to ask yourself one question, depending on your answer of yes or no, you knew who to vote for.
But in 2022 we will have shrunk to five parties. Five ! After years of getting used to doing something with two people, suddenly you get caught doing it with five, dammit! You don’t really know where to turn and the rest.
Gone are the days of two colors. We arrived with a Sico charter: red, orange and three shades of blue.
There aren’t enough poles in Quebec to hang all the signs. When we leave the house we are surrounded by faces so big it’s embarrassing.
It never stops on the news shows! First the summary of the day of the leader of the CAQ, then the summary of the day of the leader of the Liberal Party, then the summary of the day of the leader of the Québec Solidaire Parliament, followed by the summary of the day of the leader of the Québécois Party and finally the summary of the day of Leader of the Quebec Conservative Party. It’s so long that we would need a summary of summaries. It’s not a news show anymore, it’s a Netflix series!
Every day they send us dozens of suggestions one by one for us to make computer as if we were an Excel file on two legs. We have life! We don’t just have to do that, assimilate political programs.
Just to navigate the tax cuts you need a GPS. While the CAQ promises to cut the rates of the first two tax brackets by 1% in the short term and 2.5% over 10 years, while the PLQ will cut them by 1.5% immediately for the first two brackets, the PCQ will cut them in turn the first two levels by 2% by increasing the personal amount from $16,143 to $20,000 that the PQ does not reduce the tax, but we send a check for $1200, and the QS promises a tax holiday for thousands of products, say Tell us, which economic solution are you sticking to? Uh… Can you repeat the question?
Too many choices are like not enough.
In the past, if you went to the market and asked for a tomato, you got a tomato. Now you’re being asked, “Would you like a sweet-tasting beefsteak tomato, a sour-tasting cherry tomato, a lemony-tasting green zebra tomato, a sweet-tasting Andean horned tomato, or a fragrant-tasting purple gourd tomato?” “I just want a tomato that tastes like a tomato!” ! ! !
I can’t wait to see the debate! A five-party debate is not a debate, it is an orgy. When they start interrupting, it’ll sound like it’s from the good old days 110%. Who will be Jean Perron? And the Face to face the VAT becomes the Face to face to face to face. Even at two they barely had time to get their point across, imagine, at five.
By the way, a tip for the five bosses: Stop speaking against others. We don’t understand what you blame each of you for. It’s not a campaign anymore, it’s OD.
At least at double castthey form alliances while at fivefold occupancyno chance of Dominique going with Éric and Gabriel French François. Bickering kills the message. We only talk about it. Use your airtime to say good things about yourself because other people won’t.
You are five and we have to deal with it. Still, there are advantages. The range is greater. It’s like in one boy band, you’re more likely to find a member to relate to. It’s even better than one boy bandbecause at least there is a woman.
When the elections are over, we can dream of those five in the National Assembly joining forces instead of tearing each other apart. Each represents a percentage of the population that it is important to involve in the great project of living together.
They were also five once and they managed to sing people of the countryin harmony.
