After opening a “Zellers space” at the Galeries d’Anjou last fall, the Hudson’s Bay Company announced the return of the famous brand on Wednesday, almost 10 years after its disappearance, to the delight of consumers.

“I went there almost every month when they were open. I was a little shocked when they closed,” he says protocol Nives Dolzan.

Nives Dolzan said she was very fond of Zellers and was “a little shocked” when they closed a decade ago.
The Toronto retailer plans to re-launch Zellers in early 2023. The revival will come in the form of an e-commerce website and stores across its network of The Bay stores.
The company aims to “deliver a digitally-centric shopping experience inspired by the chain’s nostalgia that people here know and love.”
Happy past customers
At the Galeries d’Anjou store, there have already been several customers who have heard the news and have asked the staff about the matter.
Brigitte Mancini went to “her” Zellers in Montreal to shop for household items, plants, underwear and even stationery. She remembers the family trips well.
“I miss the Zellers store. It’s gone, but every time we drive past it, we say, ‘Hey, we were going to Zellers,'” she says.
The Montreal native is positive about the return of the brand, since it is a Canadian brand.
“We lose almost all of them,” she comments.
Nives Dolzan appreciated the variety of items sold and their attractive price for a “good quality”, she specifies.
“Sure, I’ll pay Zellers a visit [quand ils vont rouvrir]. »

The Zellers premises, which since last fall have occupied part of the La Baie store at the Galeries d’Anjou in Montreal.
Established in 1931 and acquired by the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1978, the stores had the slogan “Where the Lowest Price Rules”.
The chain peaked in the late 1990s and had 350 stores nationwide.
But in the 2000s, the brand struggled against competition, particularly that of Walmart.
The Canadian retail giant sold Zellers’ leases to US giant Target for $1.8 billion in 2011.
However, Target’s “Canadian enterprise” was short-lived and ended in fiasco. The vast majority of stores have been closed since 2013.
