Joseph Quinn’s renewed popularity since the release of Stranger Things Season 4 has brought him some moments of joy, but also some disappointments. Eddie’s interpreter had an amazing mishap at US Customs.
Joseph Quinn never stops talking about him. The undisputed star of Stranger Things Season 4 has skyrocketed in popularity thanks to his portrayal of Eddie Munson, a heavy metal fanatic and leader of the Hellfire Club who fits effortlessly into the Netflix series’ band.
Since the release of both parts of Stranger Things Season 4, Joseph Quinn has been meeting the public and touring at conventions, where we’ve also seen him shed a few tears after a fan’s touching speech.
Eddie is so popular with Netflix series audiences that a petition has been started to have his character return in the fifth and final season, and he’s been paid several tributes, sometimes in a hilarious way in a cornfield.
Combining interviews and public appearances, the actor recently took part in his first talk show, Jimmy Fallon, where he was received triumphantly. But Joseph Quinn almost never made it there, for a very surprising reason.
Joseph Quinn Arrested at US Airport!
Eddie’s interpreter actually explained to the host that he had been arrested at customs! The British actor was taken into immigration detention upon arrival in the United States the day before appearing on Jimmy Fallon’s show:
“I was taken to a dungeon. And I was asked to wait there for about twenty minutes and then I was called into this office and someone asked me, ‘What are you doing in the United States, sir?’”
Joseph Quinn then stated that he was coming to the United States to be on the Jimmy Fallon show. And the exchange could have taken a different turn if it hadn’t been recognized by one of the agents: “He didn’t believe me. And one of his co-workers looked at me, looked at him and said, ‘Leave Eddie alone.'”
The first agent then became aware of the identity of his interlocutor, who without his clothes and long wig looks very different from his character. Then he didn’t hesitate to ask the actor if he would return in Season 5 of Stranger Things. To which Joseph Quinn replied that he knew absolutely nothing about it.
The exchange ended with a warning from the agent as he returned her passport: “You better come back.” The success of the Netflix series caused Joseph Quinn to experience this amazing misadventure that ultimately ended well.
Fans identified with Eddie and resonated with the character in several scenes, including his guitar rendition of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” in The Upside Down. This sequence also made the actor feel like a rock star:
“It was at a strange time during the pandemic where no one had seen live music in ages. I was with Gaten (Matarazzo)… it was so much fun. I was nervous but it was kind of a rock concert. And I felt like a rock star for one night. It was pretty awesome.”
Will Eddie have the opportunity to play the rock star in Stranger Things’ fifth and final season? Even though the Duffer Brothers have confirmed that Eddie won’t be in the cast, nothing is impossible in the fantasy series and fans are already having a blast with the theories that would ensure their favorite Metalhead would return in the Netflix series.
