Boxing Gala postponed due to J-Lo and Ben Affleck’s wedding?

The welterweight championship fight between Oscar Rivas and Poland’s Lukasz Rozanski, which was scheduled for August 13 in Cali, has been postponed by a few weeks. This disappointing result has to do with singer Jennifer Lopez.

The event’s Colombian promoter, Juan Carlos Moreno, had promised a premier gala to be held at Cali’s Pascual Guerrero Stadium, a 40,000-seat amphitheater.

In addition to boxing, Moreno also wanted to host a music show headlining Jennifer Lopez that same night. Also on stage were Willie Colon, Chris Brown, Natalia Paris and Omar Geles.

Boxing Gala postponed due to J-Lo and Ben Affleck's wedding?

Negotiations with the international artist were in full swing, but everything collapsed in the last three weeks. Lopez married actor Ben Affleck before going on their honeymoon.

With Lopez being the night’s leading man, the rest of the cast suffered from the backlash. The fight between Rivas and Rozanski will be presented on another date at a location to be determined.

In short, several people on the record, including the two boxers, are swimming in the fog for the rest of things. Rivas promoter Yvon Michel did not respond to our requests for comment on the case.

We don’t know if he has any guarantees for holding the gala or for the stipend paid to Rivas.

Several clues

Fighting in Colombia was a lifelong dream for Rivas. After becoming world champion, Marc Ramsay’s protégé had mentioned that the project was close to his heart.

During a trip to his home country to celebrate his conquest, Rivas had contact with the Colombian Ministry of Sport. Yvon Michel had agreed with these politicians to organize the gala.

Then there was a press conference last April. The project was well on its way.

As a result, indications of a possible shift began to accumulate. The start of ticket sales for the evening of August 13 never took place. The organizers tried to buy time with their customers by announcing appointments every week.

Then the trip of the master of gala logistics in the GYM, Sylvain Pelletier, was also canceled.

The conclusion of Rivas’ training camp was originally supposed to take place in Bogotá, but the whole thing was cancelled. Coach Marc Ramsay said it would take place in Montreal.

Then, two weeks ago, all of Rivas’ sparring partners were canceled. It was a strong signal. The champion is waiting for a new appointment to get back to full speed.

And Dikar?

If the gala is postponed, it could give Marie-Ève Dicaire (18: 1, 1 KO) a new chance for a unification fight.

The IBF super welterweight champion was unavailable to fight at the August 13 undercard gala. She had accepted a summer contract to host a show at a Montreal radio station.

With this change of date and venue, however, promoter Yvon Michel could bring back plans for a unification fight for Dicaire. We wouldn’t be surprised if the Quebecer faced off against WBC champion Swede Patricia Berghult (15-0, 3 KOs).
