Monday night was the Entry Draft for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Cape Breton Eagles owned the first overall win.
The Eagles’ very first pick was defenseman Tomas Lavoie. It was the first time since 2020 that the first overall winner was a defender.

Lavoie played with Esther-Blondin College Phénix, scoring 7 goals and 14 assists for 21 points in 36 games. He is 16 years old, 6ft 3in tall and weighs 190lbs. He’s a great defender who can excel on both sides of the ice.
Here are some presentation sequences by Tomas Lavoie:

Most scouts agreed that Lavoie should be the first overall pick, showing his talent. From the beginning of next season he should be in the jersey with the Eagles.
A first choice defender is not very common, but a second choice that turns out to be a goalkeeper is rare! Well, the Victoriaville Tigres picked Gaulois de St-Hyacinthe goaltender Gabriel D’Aigle as the second overall pick.
The last time a goaltender was drafted second overall in the QMJHL draft was Roberto Luongo in 1995. That’s putting a lot of pressure on D’Aigle, but he seems to have the talent to help the Tigers to block shots.
At 1.80 meters and just 15 years old, he becomes a giant in front of his team’s goal. Let’s not forget that he moves as fast as a 5ft 8 goalie, but in the body of a giant. We try to find weaknesses in him!
The QMJHL draft will continue to be streamed live on the QMJHL YouTube account.

– Jesse Puljujarvi could change his address.
I was told @EdmontonOilers are actively buying F Jesse Puljujarvi and there is some interest from clubs in the market for his services. Curious to see if there is a match for a potential deal between now and next week’s Entry Draft. @espn @NHL #HockeyTwitter
