MLB Recap July 2 at National: The Cards make history with 4 straight home runs

The St. Louis Cardinals became the first major league team to hit four straight home runs from the first inning when Nolan Arenado, Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez and Dylan Carlson held out their arms against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

Arenado broke the tie with his second homer of the game in the ninth and the Cards won 7-6.

It is the 11th time in MLB history that a team has hit four straight home runs and the first time in Cards history. This brand equals the record for most straight home runs in an MLB game.

After Phillies starter Kyle Gibson managed to register the first two outs, Paul Goldschmidt hit a single before crossing home plate on Arenado’s double homer to left field. This slap from Arenado comes the day after the second carousel of his career in St. Louis’ 5-3 loss to Philadelphia.

Gorman followed that up by sending a quick cut into the right field bleachers with a two-ball count and a putter. Yepez then protected his home plate with a ball and two shots before hitting a long ball over the left field fence. It was the first time the Cardinals had hit three straight home runs since September 19, 2002.

Carlson put the finishing touches with a bomb to right field on a drop ball with a one ball count and no strikes.

The last team to hit four straight homers was the Chicago White Sox, who did the feat on August 16, 2020 against the Cardinals.
