Once I went to Crete to visit a dear friend. She welcomed me with open arms and let me discover a whole new world! The first thing that struck me while walking around this beautiful island wasn’t just the sparkling sea and azure sky… It was the locals. There were so many happy, healthy people, and many of them were older and still doing all sorts of effortless physical activities. It struck me as rather strange when I started thinking about the difference between France and Greece.
How was that possible? Why ? I didn’t even have to ask my boyfriend why, I saw it with my own eyes. The key was to eat clean local fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, olive oil (yes!) and fish! And to add to this seemingly very simple menu, there was physical activity. I noticed that all the people on the island were still walking. (Well, if you’re in Crete… you know what to do.) For about two months of slow living, filled with laughter and amazing food, I shed my extra pounds. The results were shocking when I did the math. The thing is, I wasn’t even hungry in those two months! My complexes were just a memory and cleared up pretty quickly. That’s what zero stress and healthy eating do to your body. And until now I still follow this golden principle. So, without further ado, let’s see what the basics of the Cretan diet are!
Cretan Diet: What are the Benefits?
