Crowdsurfing, smashing guitar, quasi-Olympic acrobatics, convulsive waddling, real-time projections, an ode to acceptance: Hubert Lenoir, on Franco’s flagship stage on Tuesday, was… Hubert Lenoir. Exuberant, crazy, totally.

Before his most impressive floor of his career, the hero of the evening walked across the stage with a catapult with a slight delay Golden datheresnot without first letting out a primal scream, the first of a whole series.
The second track had not yet released its first notes when the singer, enchanted by a bright construction jacket and an NFB cap, offered himself a dip in the crowd, the first of a… sacred round.
Anyone who has already observed the specimen in concert will measure its lustful tendency to excess. It happened during monthly freestylealso from the younger and very dense picture de ipse (2021). Hubert Lenoir will use the almost-rapped track to reveal the delicate white dress hidden beneath his construction jacket.
“How many girls do I have to fuck for my friends to admire me? / How many cocks do I have to suck to be gay enough? »
No censorship with Lenoir: “You came with you, you came with your mother who hases me a little”, clearly assumed the most punk rocker of all, who later regretted having received numerous “homophobic death threats” in his early days.
It’s during Sunday night that the energy on the ground was catalyzed during a melee of circumstances (mosh pit) took shape without ever really slowing down. Else during the tinny doldrums of When we get to itone of four Tuesday Proposals borrowed from darlenefirst album released in 2018.
To October and sugar and saltit is your hotel, another excerpt from the opening disc meant to fill up the crowd that had gathered up to the Complexe Desjardins. “And death doesn’t hurt when we go straight to heaven / Let me sleep in front of your hotel.” And Lenoir stretched out again on a bed of willing arms.
As usual, the singer presented himself directly, turbulently, proudly. For example by presenting secretfor which he had won the SOCAN Songwriting Prize earlier in the day.
No false humility with Lenoir: “That’s good! It’s one of the best songs I’ve written in my life. »
A few times during the concert, the master of ceremonies interrupts his pieces with silence and “hooray”. The explanation will come later. It’s a ploy to stay within the 96 decibel limit mandated by the “fucking condos, corporations and shit” surrounding Place des Festivals.
No compromises with Lenoir: “The police only calculate the average of the concert. I’m no more basement than anyone else. I do long moments of silence, because after that you can squeak the volume in the background, Tabarnak. »
Following an unlikely potpourri of pop hits delivered in a hard rock sauce (shooting stars, Fireworks, All Star, The time of the cathedralss), it is the consequence of pound cake and from Person’s daughter II that will move viewers, with thousands of volunteer singers singing this “relaxing” chorus: “I came to tell you / That you can change / I saw a future of liberated women / Where you wore the leather / And the shaved head.”
As a reminder, two songs extended the evening: phase, with Hubert Lenoir messing up his guitar on stage (nothing less!), then at the end of an all English playlist – why not digress? -, the pipe Start anew.
Yes, here we go again.
No wonder with Lenoir: there will always be surprises.
Live music, live concert
picture de ipsereleased in September 2021, is a concept album of “direct music”, especially in relation to the many tracks see fi recorded live. How was this idea transferred to the stage? Hubert Lenoir pays homage to Pierre Perrault’s cinema with videos. A camera managed by his accomplice Noémie D. Leclerc filmed the singer’s comings and goings on stage, in the dressing rooms – for example to grab a bottle of Fort or come back with a spinning crown (or was it a necklace?) -, in the crowd, etc. These moments were broadcast live on the two big screens.
