A former Concordia University football player has been found guilty of forcing a woman into prostitution for five years between Montreal and Toronto. The burly André Bryan Rose did not hesitate to hit the victim, threatened him with death, even ordered him to kneel in front of him in order to make him fall.

“I’m going to kill you… I’m going to come to Montreal and kill you,” the 31-year-old Torontonian told the victim in February 2018. The young Quebecer had just fled her Queen City executioner in Montreal to seek refuge. It was the end of five long years under the spell and yoke of André Bryan Rose, a former college football player-turned-pimp.
André Bryan Rose was furious at the Montreal courthouse on Tuesday when Judge Josée Bélanger found him guilty of human trafficking, pimping, assault and death threats in a sweeping 75-page decision.
“I was pissed off! ‘ he threw at the judge as he was about to issue an arrest warrant for the defendant’s refusal to return to the courtroom. Judge Bélanger flatly dismissed André Bryan Rose’s version, citing his “unbelievable” answers, his “evolving” statements and his numerous contradictions.
Even if the victim’s testimony was “not perfect,” Judge Bélanger believed her version. Exceptional precautions were taken to allow the victim to complete his grueling three-day cross-examination. Among other things, the victim was able to testify, in addition to Sundae, an assistance dog and have access to a stress ball. The defense attempted to attack the victim’s credibility for this reason, but Judge Bélanger refuted these “stereotypes”.
” [Ton] body is found in a lake”
The Toronto native met the victim at a bar in the summer of 2010. At the time, he was studying at Concordia University because he received a scholarship to join the soccer team. The victim comes out of puberty and hardly speaks English. She claims to have had a non-consensual sexual relationship with the accused. Two years later, the victim André Bryan Rose happens to meet again in Toronto and falls under his spell.
However, in 2013, the victim offered his sexual services at a spa for the first time to please André Bryan Rose. She had never prostituted herself in the past. Her first experiences repelled her, but the pimp insisted that she drop out of college and pursue sex work. For months she practiced “erotic” massages in a spa.
In the years that followed, the pimp tightened his grip on the young woman, exercising “total control” over her income and schedule. He therefore never allows her to say goodbye. André Bryan Rose then used threats and psychological pressure to keep the victim in sex work, the judge concluded.
For example, when the victim tells him he doesn’t want to work anymore, André Bryan Rose responds by mimicking the fact of having stabbed someone. The pimp also says he has access to firearms. Note that the victim also worked for another pimp in 2015.
The physically imposing pimp uses physical violence on a few occasions. The former football player grabs the victim’s head for a few seconds until she chokes on breath. “Go back to work,” he ordered her. In 2017, André Bryan Rose pushed the young woman against the wall and ordered her to kneel in front of him to prove to him that she was truly devoted (ten toes down).
André Bryan Rose wears the key to the safe around his neck where he keeps the victim’s earnings. At one point, he threatens her that if he ever fails to find her key, her “body would be found in a lake”. In court, the victim testified that this threat made her “blood run cold”.
The case will be brought to trial in September next year for sentencing. Me Jean-Philippe Mackay represented the Public Ministry, while Me Tom Pentefountas defended the accused.
