HTC is preparing its big comeback with a smartphone dedicated to the Metaverse

HTC is preparing to introduce a new high-end smartphone. The manufacturer boasts of having designed an Android phone suitable for the Metaverse.

HTC has announced the arrival of a new high-end smartphone. This June 28, 2022the Taiwanese manufacturer will unveil the phone during an online conference titled “Login future”. The promotional image shared by the brand on social networks includes the mention of the Viverse.

Announced at MWC 2022, the viverse is the digital universe developed by HTC, accessible in virtual and augmented reality. On its website, the group describes the Viverse as “an interoperable ecosystem in which diverse content platforms connect to create a seamless user experience in a decentralized, secure and open manner”.

This digital space is particularly accessible with a smartphone, tablet, computer or a virtual reality headset such as the brand’s Vive Flow. The Viverse has several sections. Examples include Vive Sync, which enables business meetings, and a non-fungible token (NFT) showroom.

After crypto, HTC relies on the Metaverse

To support the creation of this virtual universe, HTC has developed a smartphone cut out for the Metaverse. At the trade fair in Barcelona, ​​the manufacturer had already announced the release of the Android cell phone. So far, HTC has not yet revealed the features planned for the smartphone. At the MWC, however, the manufacturer indicated that the terminal would be optimized to display applications in virtual or augmented reality.

For the record, HTC had already attempted to initiate the return to mobile through betting Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain. In 2018, the company launched the HTC Exodus, a smartphone that includes a digital wallet for storing cryptocurrencies.

HTC, the former cador of the smartphone market, has gradually been left behind by the competition. Manufacturers from LG, Motorola or Sony have mirroring lost ground against Samsung, Apple and Chinese brands like Xiaomi and Oppo. In 2012, HTC held only 4% of the global market share. In the years that followed, the brand slipped off the radar despite the release of several successful references, including the HTC U12+.

In recent years, HTC has been forced to lay off some of its employees to cut costs. 22% of the company’s employees were laid off in 2018. At the same time, the group decided to focus on the design of helmets and tools for virtual and augmented reality. By focusing on this niche market, HTC has managed to stay afloat.
