a video game streaming device and TV app on the go?

Microsoft is working on a game streaming device and TV app. Both could arrive very soon.

It’s been 11 months now Microsoft confirmed that it is working on a video game streaming device as well as a Smart TV application to further enhance its Xbox ecosystem. The US giant hasn’t given any details since then, but today a new report suggests both could arrive within the next few months.

Microsoft is working on a game streaming device and TV app

The streaming device, which plugs into a TV or screen, would be in the shape of a key or puck, according to GamesBeat. In other words, it would look like either an Amazon Fire Stick or a Chromecast. And it is rumored that it would be possible to not only stream games from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate but also watch movies and other TV series.

At the same time, Microsoft would be working with Samsung on an Xbox application for the brand’s televisions. Some 2022 models from the South Korean giant are already compatible with streaming services such as Google Stadia and NVIDIA GeForce Now. It wouldn’t be surprising to see an Xbox cloud gaming app on these TVs.

Both could arrive very soon

The TV app and streaming device are expected to launch within the next 12 months. These fit perfectly into the Microsoft Xbox Everywhere strategy. The name itself is clear: the Redmong company wants to be able to reach gamers everywhere, whether they have an Xbox console or a gaming PC worthy of the name, or neither.

The project made significant headway this week with the addition of Fortnite to the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform. This allows anyone to stream this hugely popular game on any device including iPhone or iPad.

But what sets all of this apart from other Xbox streaming games is that it’s free. You don’t need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership to stream Fortnite. A simple Microsoft account will do. The American giant states that it wants to offer a range of free-to-play titles playable via the cloud. Perhaps we could see games like Apex Legends, Call of Duty Warzone or Halo Infinite’s multiplayer.

And maybe we won’t have to wait long to discover this new level of Xbox Everywhere. There will be a big Xbox and Bethesda presentation on June 12th. There could be more than game announcements and other trailers.
