The home of a family from Saint-Côme-Linière in Beauce was completely destroyed by a garbage truck on Friday morning.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Principale Street and 15th Street.

The total loss apartment building is at the end of a sloping street.

“The entrance to my house is in front of a hill and a truck going down it lost its brakes,” says Bianca Perreault, owner of the house, in an interview with LCN.

Fortunately, no one was in the home at the time of impact and it was insured.

However, the woman and her three teenagers lost everything.

The social worker Bianca Perreault was in La Guadeloupe in the morning. Well insured, the mother of the family bought the house four years ago. Material goods can replace each other, but the cat and a turtle have disappeared. Few things can be saved, except perhaps a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that is still in good condition. This traumatic episode could haunt the family for a few weeks now.

The family has been taken in by the Red Cross, but the woman fears she will have trouble finding a new home.

“We agree that we are remodeling a house today, we are arriving in July, there are no apartments or houses for rent. And you can’t remodel a house in two weeks,” says the mother.

Still in shock, Bianca Perreault said she was relieved no one was injured.

“It’s material. Yes, memories unfortunately, but everyone, the kids weren’t home. I had gone to work, so a bad return from work, on the other hand it shortened the day, but everyone is fine,” she says .

Tiffany Drouin considers herself very fortunate to have slept elsewhere, as did her sister and brother.

“I feel average. Last night I almost stayed at my boyfriend’s house to sleep. Finally, I called my father to pick us up,” said the 14-year-old girl.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the driver of Sanitaire Fortier’s truck lost control while descending. A few paces from the Caisse Desjardins building, he couldn’t stop his mad run.

The truck driver was not seriously injured. Significant maneuvers were required to tow the heavy weight.

Solidarity, citizens of the area have already offered the family temporary housing.
