Algeria – Cameroon: FIFA says no to Algeria

The Algerian Football Federation waited until the middle of the night to release correspondence from FIFA. The world association reacted to the request of the national association of Djamel Belmadi. The part communicated seems to be only an excerpt of the correspondence. If we read between the lines, we can understand that the game Algeria – Cameroon will not be repeated.

As a reminder, in the name of the 2022 World Cup, Algeria defeated Cameroon on March 25, 2022 in Douala. It was the first leg of the Qatar 2022 play-offs. It was the first time the Indomitable Lions had lost a game at home in almost 31 years. The circumstances of this defeat shook Cameroon. After a 3rd place finish at CAN2021, Antonio Conceiçao and his staff including Omam Biyik were fired. Rigobert Song, without a great coaching pedigree, replaced him in the selection.

Algeria – Cameroon: No one sold the lion’s skin dearly

Except that four days later in the Algerian stronghold of Blida, the selection of the Indomitable Lions will surprise. The Fennecs meet the Lions at this stadium in a town of fewer than 50,000. In fact, they had never lost a single match in this enclosure. The Algerians hoped it would be a formality to validate their ticket.

Choupo-Moting’s first goal in the 22nd minute leveled the score. This score is valid until the end of regulation time. Touba scored in overtime in what everyone thought was the end of the game. We played the 118th minute. But at the last moment, Toko-Ekambi will deflect a Ngadeu header to lead Cameroon to victory.

To justify the exit, Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi will find a scapegoat. According to him, their departure is thanks to referee Gassama. This theory is shared on numerous occasions through social networks and the media and official pages of their association.

The case was then brought before FIFA and its Arbitration Committee. They hope for a decision to replay the game.

FIFA responds to the Algerian federation

This Friday, FIFA would therefore have sent a response to the Algerian federation, from which here is the outfit:

In response to the complaint submitted to the FIFA Referees Committee regarding the Algeria-Cameroon play-off second leg of March 29, 2022, which qualifies for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced today, 6 , 2022, a letter from the said commission, the content of which reads as follows: “We regret that, in your opinion, the decisions of the arbitrators could have negatively influenced the course of the meeting. We have carefully noted the elements of your letter and we can already guarantee that all incidents that occurred during the game have been carefully investigated by the two “video” referees in accordance with the game rules and the video assistance protocol for an arbitration”.

Camfoot therefore understands that despite the noise and premature demonstrations, FIFA considers Algeria’s claim to be dishonest.

This game will not be repeated.
