Papilloma virus, flu … Public Health France restarts a vaccination campaign in Martinique – All the news about Martinique on the web

If there has been a lot of talk about the vaccines against Covid-19 in recent months, there are many other vaccines recommended by Public Health France. On the occasion of European Immunization Week, here are the key figures in Martinique.

From April 25th to May 1st, Santé Publique France is organizing a major vaccination campaign to mark European Vaccination Week. This time the aim is not to promote vaccination against Covid-19 but against other diseases. Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) or the vaccination against meningococci that was newly prescribed a year ago are particularly recommended.

Santé Publique France provides the latest figures that show what is considered too slow an evolution, particularly as regards HPV vaccination coverage. In Martinique, only 17% of 15-year-old girls born in 2006 are vaccinated. A figure that, however, has increased by 2.7% compared to the previous year. In France, only one in two young girls has a full vaccination schedule. The situation in the West Indies is “even more worrying” according to Santé Publique France, which notes that in Martinique only one in six girls has a full vaccination schedule. In Guadeloupe, 25% of young girls are fully vaccinated against HPV.

Vaccination open to boys aged 11 to 14

As a reminder, vaccination against the papillomavirus was recently opened to boys. Before January 1, 2021, the vaccine was only intended for young girls, but now boys aged 11 to 14 can take advantage of it. In fact, the latter are not spared from cancers linked to this virus, since of the 6,300 new cancer cases, almost a third are men.

In addition, Public Health France notes a decrease in influenza vaccination in Martinique between 2019 and 2020 (-3.2%). On the other hand, compulsory infant vaccination against meningococcal disease has improved. In Martinique, 74.1% (+10.7%) received one dose of vaccine and 84.1% (+8%) received their booster dose.
