MLB: Miguel Cabrera scores his 3,000. MLB hit

DETROIT — Detroit Tigers All-Star Miguel Cabrera hit 3,000 career hits in Game 1 of a doubleheader in a 13-0 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

Cabrera also became the 33rd player in major league history to do so, and the first from Venezuela.

Cabrera, who is still dangerous even at 39, made history by hitting a ground ball that pierced the infield in the first inning at the expense of compatriot Antonio Senzatela.

Cabrera immediately raised his right arm skyward as he headed for the first pillow. The crowd at Comerica Park gave him a standing ovation and fireworks were let off from the scoreboard.

“I thought I had to do it today,” Cabrera said.

A two-time American League MVP, triple crown winner, four-time hitting champion and 11 All-Star Game winner, Miggy is easily one of the biggest hitters in baseball history.

“I’m happy to have managed the feat here. I’m glad the Detroit people could be there. Hopefully I can score more goals here,” said the star of the day.

Cabrera also helped the Florida Marlins win the World Series in 2003 when he was just a 20-year-old rookie. Years went by and Cabrera added another performance to his impressive streak on Saturday after reaching the plateau of 3,000 career goals.

There’s no doubt that one day he’ll be entitled to his Cooperstown license plate too.

Cabrera didn’t stop there when he hit a two-run single in the sixth inning for his 3,001. Added career hit.

Cabrera is only the seventh player in major league history to hit 500 home runs and 3,000 hits. He joined Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Rafael Palmeiro, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez.

Cabrera is the seventh player of Hispanic descent to reach the 3,000 hit mark. Pujols is the last to accomplish the feat in 2018.

He is also the third player to make his 3,000. Career hit scored while wearing a Tigers uniform. Ty Cobb and Al Kaline are the two previous players.

“Al is one of my heroes. “It’s very sad that he couldn’t see that goal because he kept talking to me about that moment,” Cabrera said. I hope wherever he is right now he is happy and smiling. »
